Lucas reviews Dale MacPherson's "Gatorsnake"
Gatorsnake is a film my friend Dale MacPherson wrote while in a blackout and funded using some money that he won in a lawsuit after he was hit by a Best Buy Geek Squad van. the film tells the story of a small town in the deep South that is terrorized by a "gatorsnake," a snake/gator hybrid.
i hate to disparage the work of a close friend but Dale missed almost every mark imaginable. Dale is an untrained filmmaker with no access to prosthetics or a special effects team and resorted to using a regular snake to play the gatorsnake. also, all of Dale's actors quit the project after the first day of shooting so Dale played all parts, even though he completely lacks the range of a Gary Oldman or a Nic Cage. i myself actually had a small role in one scene but Dale cut it out of the movie, which was upsetting. i lived in a swamp for 6 months to research the role. even at 45 mins. (20 of which are made up of montage sequences) Gatorsnake moves at a snail's pace. also, Dale dropped his camera in a swamp before he could film the ending so the film switches from live action to Flash animation in the last 8 minutes. the transition is not seamless. overall, Gatorsnake is a poor piece of filmmaking despite its large budget (90% of which was spent on the rights to use AC/DC's "Highway to Hell," which plays on a loop throughout the entire film). "but Lucas, does Gatorsnake have any redeeming qualities?" good question, stupid- no. fortunately for everyone we do not need to worry about Dale making any more films. he has been put in jail because last week while in another blackout he confessed to a cop whom he mistook for his dad that he jumped in front of the Geek Squad van on purpose so he could "sue Best Buy's tits off and make movie history." Dale was murdered in the shower his 2nd day in jail. r.i.p. Dale Mac Pherson 1969-2012.
Gatorsnake premiers next month on Syfy. watch if you have a bad case of "happiness" you need cured.
